Elderly and Infirmed Aided by Home Medical Monitoring

by

We all want the best for our aging parents or grandparents. Fortunately, there are products available which help to ease the concerns of friends and family members of the elderly or ailing.

Elderly alert systems can be lifesavers. What are they and how do they work? A top rated medical alert device is comprised of a panic button, a base station and the medical response center. Panic buttons can come in a variety of forms. The most popular is the medical alert bracelet, and other common buttons are worn on necklaces, wristwatches and pendants. They contain the wearer s medical history and emergency information including contact names, personal identification and pertinent phone numbers.

The success or failure of the medical response system depends largely on the person wearing the alert device; it should be worn by the patient at all times. In an emergency situation, the panic button will activate the base station which is plugged into the telephone. A two-way speaker unit allows for a two-way conversation between the patient and qualified medical personnel who will assess the situation. The base unit boasts an ultra-sensitive microphone and speaker for clearer voice and sound quality. In the event of a power failure, the unit comes with a backup battery sufficient enough to warn your family, friends or doctor, and will also call for medical assistance when the need arises. The monitoring stations operate on a 24/7 basis.

Home medical monitoring systems or alarms can improve a person s quality of life because they can keep their independence and be confident that their medical need can be taken care of at crucial times. Senior medical alert systems are not only beneficial to the elderly, but also to people suffering from ailments that require immediate attention and those who may be handicapped.

Medical alert devices come in different designer shapes and have a variety of available accessories. Some are equipped with sensitive sensors that will activate emergency transmitters and call for help if they detect falls or other unusual occurrences. A medical monitoring system typically has a 400-600-foot range, and is optimally located near the center of the home. This makes it possible for the response center to pick up signals from any corner of the house where a mishap has occurred. For physically challenged people, soft touch buttons are also available.

Medical alert services are arguably one of the foremost humanitarian developments of our time. These services can be a saving grace when a patient is not in a frame of mind or physically able to handle a medical emergency. Help can be called for within minutes or even seconds. Simply put, medical alert systems earn their keep when unexpected events occur and there is no one in the vicinity to offer personal assistance.

Experience has shown that the patient feels more confident and less anxious with a medical alert system in place. It s a win-win situation because friends and loved ones of an elderly or infirmed individual can rest easy knowing that there is an extra measure of security. In addition to medical help and emergency response, these systems offer peace of mind.
